| The goal of the Community Outreach Unit is to
work in partnership with the community. The Officer assigned to the unit are
responsible for Crime Prevention, School Resource and Neighborhood Watch
Programs. When on duty, the Community Outreach Officer shall be responsible for patrolling and handling all calls for Police service in a specific geographic area. In addition, the Officer will be responsible for developing a partnership with community members and groups within the area, and for promoting and instituting community problem-solving strategies so as to empower them and to address crime, fear of crime, and quality of life issues. |

| This Police Officer, under the scope of School
Resource duties, has the primary responsibility for cooperating with the
schools in developing and improving safety education programs, supervising the
training of members of the Department as it related to school safety issues,
and overseeing the maintenance of traffic control devices on or near school
zones. |

| The promotion and deliverance of the Departmental crime prevention and demand reduction activities is also the responsibility of the Community Outreach officer. This Officer serves as the Department's resource to the community to provide information, guidance and education regarding proactive measures that community members can take to reduce their vulnerability to crime. The primary responsibility of the Officer is to educate the community as to target hardening and other proactive measures that can be taken to reduce crime and the fear of crime, and in general, improve the quality of life in this community. | ||
